Felon found with grenade, meth after traffic stop

Part of a primary Delano street was closed Sunday afternoon after Kern County deputies found a grenade in a suspect's car.

Jose Ayon, 35, of Delano, was pulled over around 4:30 p.m. He was wanted for allegedly driving on a suspended license and for a misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernardino County for a vehicle code violation, the sheriff's office said Monday morning.

While searching the car, deputies found a grenade inside the engine compartment. A safe zone was set up around the car, and Main Street between 5th and 6th streets was closed.

The county bomb squad rendered the grenade safe and determined it was inert, the sheriff's office said.

A small amount of ammunition was also found in the car, and about 12 grams of suspected methamphetamine was found in Ayon's clothing during the booking process.

Anyon was arrested on a litany of charges for vehicle violations, drugs and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Former Delano school employee guilty of child porn

FRESNO, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A former information technology specialist with the Delano Joint Union High School District pleaded guilty Friday to child pornography-related charges.

Lonny Ray Haycock, 31, of Bakersfield, made pornography with a child under age 12 in August 2010, federal prosecutors said. He then transmitted the images to undercover FBI agents in Philadelphia and Sacramento.

He lived with his grandmother in Oildale at the time.

None of the production took place on school grounds or with school equipment, the district said in 2010.

Friday, Haycock pleaded guilty to the sexual exploitation of a minor for producing images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to the prosecutor's office.

Haycock is set for sentencing in April and faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.
